Process plays an important role in my art. I collect and recycle the components
that form my work. I combine mechanical and fabricated devices with objects
produced by the natural environment. I have always been fascinated by the way
machines work. Understanding mechanical capabilities and how tools function has
an impact on how I handle my materials. Blending detritus seamlessly with hand -
crafted and machined elements creates a visual narrative. In this work the object
is a union of man made versus nature.
We live in society that is becoming environmentally conscious of the materials
that surround us. Materials have an impact on the way we perceive form. The media
and industry are examining the way we change and develop our environment. There
is no doubt that the presence of a specific material has a direct effect on the viewer’s
response to an object in space. This is evident in the context of an art gallery and in
everyday life.
When I juxtapose forms a metaphor is created. This implies a commentary on the future,
the environment, and man's relationship with materials in our environment. Reclaimed
objects have always been the impetus and the source of inspiration in my work.
