Statement
In my process I collect and recycle. Materials have an impact on the way we perceive form. Traditional and new materials are merged in my work. I alternate between materials that are familiar and new. I blend found objects seamlessly with objects that are hand crafted. I employ materials from the physical environment. Reclaimed objects are often the source of inspiration.
Sculpture is a visual and tactile experience. Because it occupies real space, this can create a sense of heightened awareness. The work draws attention to itself and engages the viewers senses. This allows for a complicated dialogue. Scale is a major concern in most of my work. I exhibit work in public space to reach a wider audience. Structural integrity is an increasingly important aspect for this kind of work.
Recent work employs negative space, line, and shadow to create volume. Intuitive decisions are made within the construction, however there is always an intentional outcome. My intention is to make work that conveys a vision that is sublime, and emotional. The objects are a metaphor for the events that enter my life.
